About Our Company

The ReUse Centre was founded in 1997 as a charitable trust called Furniture Link (Bedford), changing its name to The ReUse Centre in 2010.

Based at a warehouse and showroom in the centre of Bedford, The ReUse Centre has become an established reuse Charity and Social Enterprise – bringing benefits to the local community and fulfilling a social need. Focused mainly on furniture and electrical goods, the company operates throughout the historic county of Bedfordshire, collecting donated household goods and selling them on at low cost.

Like all charities, we have costs to cover so we have to charge for the items we sell. But our willing band of volunteers helps us to keep our costs down and those savings are passed on to our customers.

The ReUse Centre is open to everyone but we particularly support our members, people in need or hardship. Members receive a discount of around 20% against the non-member price for most items. Membership is free and available to anyone receiving any means tested benefits. Click on the membership link for more details about how to become a member.

As a Social Firm, the company aids the local community by helping people to gain real skills, which in turn help them to get back into work. We do this through our well-recognised volunteering and work placement scheme.

We work closely with housing associations, Social Services and other charities to give the best value for money to their clients. And for this we depend heavily on the generosity of the general public to donate re-usable goods and where possible make a small financial donation to help with our costs. If you sign up for Gift Aid when you donate we can stretch the value of that donation even further. Follow the donations link for more details.

And as a Social Enterprise, we promote the wider understanding of re-use and why it's good for the community and the environment. Our archive of press releases, articles and other information can be found by clicking here.
