Without our fantastic volunteer workforce The ReUse Centre would not have been able to do what we do since 1998. Every week an average of thirty people donate a portion of their free time to the charity.
Their efforts ensure that people in Bedfordshire can get the items that they need to furnish their homes.
They are supported by a small staff of just six people.
Mark grew up in a Bedford retail family. His grandparents owned Goodbands' bakers on Castle Road for decades and also ran a successful stall on the Market. During his school years his parents owned and operated NewsFayre at the top of the High Street and The Chocolate Box in Kempston. At 21 Mark left Bedford and moved to Houston, Texas, where he lived and worked for over 20 years. He returned to Bedford in 2007 and worked throughout Europe for 2 years, installing Enterprise Resource Planning systems (SAP) until the financial crisis hit. In January 2011 he started volunteering at The ReUse Centre. He had applied for a position selling goods on e-bay, we asked him to put in a software system instead. In April of 2011 he was hired as Operations Manager, and by March of 2012 he had become the Chief Officer. Mark gets a tremendous sense of well being from all positive impacts that TRC has on the local community, alleviating poverty, protecting the environment and improving the job prospects of long term unemployed people.
Graham came to TRC through a "back to work scheme". He enjoys the way people react when their new furniture is delivered and their house becomes a home.
